Limit the candidate's response to “I will follow Florida law.’’???
Really?
Why not try to determine whether the candidate understands current Florida and Federal law?
Why not try to determine whether the candidate disagrees with current Florida and Federal law and will only weakly follow it?
Why not try to determine whether the candidate will use his office to advocate changes in Florida or Federal law, changes that you do not agree with?
Interestingly, where many states require a stated reason for issuing citizens a licenses to carry firearms on the application, some advocate giving the reason "for all lawful purposes". Some issuing authorities do not find that to be sufficient reason for issuing the license despite the reality that no reason needs to be given to exercise a right. Likewise, you would hope that a candidate for sheriff in Florida would give a response with more information than "I will follow Florida law." No response would be very informative.
Just as the First Amendment lets the PNJ publish this article without government interference, the NRA is free to ask questions and to publish the responses or lack of response.
