Early Warning System

"They're coming." [More]

Scary stuff, and not just for us.

Since similarities are being discussed, one of the lessons of Waco I remember is the Davidians begging the media to cover things in real time, something that went largely unanswered as the cameras and crews were kept at bay "for their safety."

That let a lot of bad things happen without scrutiny, didn't it?

The thought strikes that the entire information distribution paradigm has changed since then. If you had to let the world know you needed them as real time witnesses, what would/could you do?

Can you live stream audio, video and text that can also be archived on multiple sites, including sending out an alert to get wider attention?  Can it be cut off, blocked, jammed? Is there anything you can do to override that? What would it take, what would it cost, and how long would it take for a non-tech person to get comfortable enough to instantly switch on and use to document an emergency?

What would it take to establish an unofficial "emergency broadcast system" that would be within the average gun owner's reach and capabilities to participate in?  Would there be a better place to test it than one where the only way to enforce existing law is through widespread initiation of force against the multitudes defying it?

One thing we know: Creatures of darkness hate the light.

Great points! The only thing that rivals the hatred toward gun rights from our police state regime is their hatred of free speech and the ability to get it out to the non elites.

Here's one that runs under Android OS. I don't know if it does everything we need, though.

Love them or hate them, Anonymous has been a great example of "live tweeting" protests and streaming of video and audio. Take notes and learn accordingly, could save someone's life.

Good idea. What is required is an application that instantly uploads and makes public video from phones, so the message getsvout even if the phone is confiscated.

Some possibilities are Openwatch and CopRecorder. See openwatch.net. See also this article: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2011/06/policing-the-police-the-apps-that-let-you-spy-on-the-cops/240916/

“Entrepreneur Bill Moore was in his Austin, Texas, office last Thursday, watching explosive growth for his company’s walkie-talkie app, Zello, inside Venezuela. Zello had become the favorite app of protest organizers there after recently hitting the mark as the most popular app in Ukraine. Over the past few days in Venezuela, the protests ballooned following rapidly rising food prices, controversy over President Nicolas Maduro’s economic policies, public dissatisfaction over crime and multiple other factors.”

www.ustream.tv is a great, free video streaming app for windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android that can also record/archive in real time on the web.

Streambox is another one:

The internet can be shut down, so can your corporate controlled phone networks. here is a good start, especially if it is altered to rebroadcast device to device, as in repeaters for the broadcast.

Raspberry pi: $35.00
Learning enough Python to make an alert system for your fellow countrymen: Priceless.

The interesting thing about FM radio is "capture effect" - the biggest signal in the area gets the receiver EVEN ON THE SAME FREQUENCY.... North Country Radio - dunno if they're still in business - offered a compact kit with "export" power if you assemble it that way...

One of the Anonymous folks above posted a link and a tease to an article about Zello and its widespread use in the Venezuelan uprising. As long as we're talking about a localized (potential) conflict for which an early warning system is needed (like CT), Zello is perfect. Please see my comment at Sipsey on the topic that links back to this piece. It should be posted after moderation by morning. In the meantime, everyone needs to read the article Anonymous linked to above:

remember, when all else fails, use voice or Morse code on the ham bands and your local repeaters.
