The real danger, the one that those abrogating your freedom are abetting for evil purposes of their own, is happening out of sight. The intent is for you to never know what's happening until the trick is over, and then not be able to figure out how they did it.
It's basic misdirection and distraction, the reason "magic" shows fool audiences... and since the whole scam depends on performers never revealing their secrets and spoiling the illusion, anyone who gives away act secrets will not be treated kindly.
There's a reason why those who are easily fooled are referred to as rubes, suckers, marks...
